Course Overview
The Teacher Burnout course is designed to provide educators with practical strategies and tools to recognize, manage, prevent, and start recovering from burnout. Throughout the course, participants will explore various aspects of burnout, stress, performance and pressure, self-care, having a support system, and continuing to use and expand this learning after the course is complete. By the end of the course, teachers will be equipped with a comprehensive toolkit to start recovering from burnout, prioritize their health and wellness, maximize their time at work, and create a healthier work-life balance.
Week 1: All about Burnout
- Introduction to burnout and its dimensions.
- Recognizing the signs and symptoms of burnout.
- Understand how burnout can negatively affect your job.
- Increase autonomy in your life in your environment, mindset, responsibilities, and schedule.
Week 2: All about Stress
- Defining stress and its role in teacher burnout.
- Understand how stress can show up mentally and physically.
- Learn ways to increase long-term stress management.
- Practice breathing exercises for stress relief.
Week 3: All about Pressure and Productivity
- Understand the relationship between pressure and productivity.
- Recognizing the effects of pressure on teacher well-being.
- Use personal management techniques to increase optimal performance while at work.
- Identify your energy highs and lows.
Week 4: All about Self-Care
- Define self-care and the 5 areas of your nature.
- Understand the importance of self-care in preventing burnout.
- Learn how to set boundaries to protect your core values.
- Determine what part of your nature needs to be nurtured right now.
Week 5: All about going Deeper into Burnout
- Explore the different dimensions of burnout (exhaustion, depersonalization, inefficacy).
- Strategies for addressing each dimension effectively.
- Understand how workplace mismatches can lead to burnout.
- Learn how to help school leaders get the burnout training they need to support teachers.
Week 6: All about Seeking Support
- Set yourself up for continued success beyond this course.
- Review and build on to your network of support.
- Recognize when to seek professional help.
- Develop a long-term support plan for sustained health & wellness.
Note: The course will include a combination of interactive lectures, group discussions, self-reflection exercises, and practical activities. Additional resources such as readings, articles, and videos will be provided to supplement the learning experience. Participants will also have access to an online platform for continued support and discussion throughout the duration of the course.
